Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central keeps items, purchase orders and sales orders in one place, but the flow of goods around it often runs through other systems: warehouse, fulfillment, shop or marketplace. I develop custom integrations that connect Business Central with these systems, so that receipts, shipments and returns are reconciled automatically.
What I build for Business Central
- Retrieving products: Items and changes are taken over from Business Central and made available to the connected systems.
- Retrieving receipts: Purchase orders (receipts) are fetched from Business Central so the warehouse can prepare the goods receipt.
- Retrieving shipments: Sales orders (shipments) are taken over from Business Central and handed to shipping.
- Reporting status changes: Updates on receipts and shipments go back to Business Central automatically.
- Reporting returns: Returns are recorded and reported back to Business Central.
- Connecting shop and marketplaces: With Business Central as the leading system, shop systems and marketplaces can be connected as well.
Excerpt from my Business Central projects
- Goods and returns flow: An integration that retrieves products, receipts and shipments from Business Central, reports updates on receipts and shipments back, and reports returns.
This is an excerpt from my completed projects, not a complete list of my services. Business Central offers an extensive API, and whatever else you need, I build individually. If your project does not appear here, just get in touch.
Ready-made connector or custom integration?
For common shop systems and marketplaces there are ready-made Business Central extensions. They cover the standard case. Whether that is enough for you, the comparison shows:
| Ready-made extension | Custom integration | |
|---|---|---|
| Fits if | Your process follows the standard | Your process deviates or warehouse and fulfillment systems are involved |
| Customization | Limited to none | Fully adaptable |
| Counterpart | Only systems supported by the extension | Any system with an API or file interface |
| Intervention in Business Central | Installing and maintaining the extension | Access via the API, no extension in the ERP |
| Costs | Ongoing license or subscription fees | One-time development, running costs usually lower |
Technology: how I work with Business Central
I access items and purchase and sales documents via the Business Central API. Data is exchanged with the counterpart via REST, JSON, XML, CSV or FTP, depending on the system. We agree together, per data flow, which data leads in Business Central and which in the neighboring system.
Process
- Clarify data flows: Which documents and data go in which direction, which status updates and special cases are there?
- Build and test: I build the integration and test it with real documents before it goes live.
- Go-live and operation: The integration runs in the background, runs are logged, and I implement process changes afterwards.
Every project is different, so you receive an individual quote after we have agreed the details.
Frequently asked questions
Which systems do you connect to Business Central?
Warehouse and fulfillment systems, shop systems such as Shopify or Shopware, and marketplaces, via Tradebyte or directly. I have already connected Business Central for the flow of goods and returns.
Can Business Central be the leading system?
Yes. Which system acts as the leading system is decided individually per data flow.
Are returns covered as well?
Yes. Returns can be recorded and reported back to Business Central, so that stock and documents are correct.
Do I need an extension in Business Central for the integration?
The integration uses the Business Central API. Which access and permissions you need for it, we clarify in an initial call based on your Business Central environment.
